My educational and professional background involves work in the social sciences, marketing, technology, and the arts. I received a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Utah in 2004. For my Senior Thesis research, I focused on the function and utility of autobiographical narratives by investigating the ways in which coming out stories change as homosexual men transition into the gay community. Given the evolving nature of social constructs like the gay community, my current interests revolve around cultural development and maintenance, and the means by which microcultural knowledge is dispersed.
Since receiving my undergrad degree, I have had the opportunity to work on the technical side of e-commerce. For two years I ran a dot-com startup after which I moved to DC to help with the technical transition of the MCAT to a computer-based test. Given my professional experience with emerging Internet mediums, I want to continue studying online identity and the commoditization of identity in the marketplace.
The CCT program was a great choice since it embraces a wide range of disciplines, all of which are complimentary to my scholarly interests. Given my aspirations for a career in scholarly research, the coursework in critical theory is crucial to completing a multidisciplinary framework grounded in qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Expanding my theoretical foundation while at CCT will inform the research decisions I make, while broadening my perspective and fueling future inquiry.
