Status: Alumni 2007
Thesis: The Cable News Ticker, Viewer Comprehension and Information Overload: Less is More

Biography:

Mike Keefe-Feldman (’07) came to CCT after working as a reporter and bureau chief at the Missoula Independent in Western Montana, where his reporting earned national and regional awards. Entering CCT, his work was published in the Penguin/Chamberlain Bros. anthology "Notes From the Underground," a collection of the best writing from alternative weekly newspapers. At CCT, he focused on the program’s Media & Politics cluster, working closely with his mentor, Dr. Diana Owen. His distinguished thesis, “The Cable News Ticker, Viewer Comprehension and Information Overload: Less is More,” found evidence suggesting a negative correlation between the news ticker, or “crawl,” on cable television news channels and viewers’ retention of news information. Currently, he works as an evening news producer at washingtonpost.com. He will serve as a visiting adjunct professor in the Fall ’07 semester at Georgetown, where he will teach “American Journalism: The Fourth Branch of Government” in the American Studies program.
