CCT Program Gets New Director

It is with great pleasure that I announce the return of David Lightfoot, Professor of Linguistics and former Dean of the Graduate School, to Georgetown University as Director of the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) Program.

David has spent the past four years as Assistant Director of the National Science Foundation, heading the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE) Directorate.  SBE is comprised of three divisions: Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences, Social and Economic Sciences, and Science Resources Statistics and is responsible for roughly $300 million in annual research investments.

The Graduate School and CCT are very fortunate to have a dedicated scholar, excellent teacher and seasoned administrator working with them over the next two years.  I am confident that David will lead CCT through its next phase of growth, change, and future distinction.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to Linda Garcia, former CCT Director.  Over the course of Linda’s tenure, she grew the CCT program, furthered its research and interdisciplinary goals, and committed herself to its excellence.  I look forward to her continuing contributions to CCT as a member of its faculty.

Please join me in welcoming David back to the Georgetown community.

Sincerely,
Timothy A. Barbari
Associate Provost for Research, Main Campus
Dean of the Graduate School
