Video of Social Media Panel Now Available
On November 5, 2009, Georgetown University’s Communication, Culture and Technology program co-sponsored a panel discussion with the Hilltop Consultants’ social media branch on "How Different Organizations Use Social Media." Panel participants included Sara Lichterman and Melody Fox Ahmed of the Berkley Center and Don Jones and Michael Dumlao of Booz Allen Hamilton. The panelists discussed how their organizations used social media.

Social Media Panelist Bios
Donald Jones is an associate and “social technologist” at Booz Allen Hamilton currently supporting the Military Health System Office of Health Affairs through web strategy and social media. Mr. Jones has also developed social media solutions for the Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Organization (ATO) Leading Edge 2.0 initiative.Prior to joining Booz Allen, Mr. Jones guided design, web and information technology strategies at the Georgetown University Health Policy Institute. Mr. Jones received a Masters of Arts in Communication, Culture and Technology from Georgetown University, where he focused on issues of identity within the virtual world Second Life. Michael Dumlao is a senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton specializing in creative multimedia design and social media strategy with a focus on participatory risk and crisis communications. He has developed integrated online and print brand strategies for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the National Protection and Programs Directorate, and other entities in the defence, homeland security, and civil sectors. Michael received training in multimedia design from the Sydney University College of Art, a B.A. in photography from the University of California in Santa Barbara, and an M.A. in Communication, Culture, and Technology from Georgetown University. Melody Fox Ahmed joined the Berkley Center in June 2006 and serves as the Director of Programs and Operations. She directs overall Center management, student programs such as the Junior Year Abroad Network and Undergraduate Fellows, and interfaith outreach. Previously she worked at the Corporate Executive Board and with the Buxton Initiative, an interfaith dialogue organization in Washington, D.C, and studied and worked in Spain, Mexico, and Brazil. She received her B.A. from Vanderbilt University and her M.A. in Global, International, and Comparative History from Georgetown University, with a focus on Latin America and the Muslim world. Sara Lichterman is a graduate research assistant at the Berkley Center and a second year Masters student in the Communication, Culture and Technology program at Georgetown. She received her BA from Dartmouth College with a major in Film and Television Studies and worked in the film industry in New York, both in production and at a talent agency. Sara’s academic interests are media and telecommunications policy and ways in which political and cultural groups use old and new media to communicate.
