No thesis on file.
Sonora Bostian joined the CCT program in Fall 2008, after graduating as a valedictorian from North Carolina State University with a BA in Communication Media. She also earned minors in Film Studies and Spanish; completed NC State's University Honors Program; and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa her senior year. Sonora's academic interests are concentrated in cultural studies as well as media, art, and representation. She is particularly interested in popular media and what these media say about, and to, the cultures they (supposedy) represent. Some of her past academic work includes an analysis on the representation of God and Jesus in Jack Chick tracts, research that was presented at the Fall 2007 Mid-Atlantic Popular/American Culture Association conference in Philadelphia, PA; and an analysis of the portrayals of women in the road movie genre, a topic she plans on exploring for her CCT thesis.
In addition to being a full-time CCT student, Sonora currently interns for the Humane Society of the United States. Working specifically for the Farm Animal Welfare department, Sonora fact-checks white papers detailing various welfare concerns with current agricultural practices, which are then published on the HSUS site for reference.
While her focus is currently on school and her thesis, Sonora hopes to potentially work for a non-profit organization after completing the CCT program. She also hopes to go back to school for her PhD in the future and potentially teach, namely in film studies or a similar media theory field.
