CCT Master of Arts Degree Requirements
CCT students must successfully complete core courses and one of two degree sequences, thesis or coursework, with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0 to be eligible for the Master of Arts in Communication, Culture & Technology.
Students may enroll on a full-time or part-time basis, but full-time enrollment is strongly encouraged. Full-time students graduate in two years. Part-time students typically graduate in two and a half years.
Degree Sequence 1 - Thesis (36 credits)
Requirements:
• CCTP-505 Introduction to CCT (3 credits)
• Core Method Course (3 credits) (Emphasizes general research techniques and methodologies)
• Core Theory Course (3 credits) (Emphasizes important foundational theories in particular interest area)
• CCTP-996 Thesis Colloquium (6 credits)
• CCTP 999-03 Thesis Research (0 credits)
• 7 Elective Courses (3 credits each)
• Thesis Project, done in conjunction with Thesis Colloquium.
Students must meet the following qualifications to pursue the thesis option. If they do not, they must do the coursework option:
• Earn an A- or better in each of the required core method and core theory courses.
• Receive the thesis advisor's approval by the start of the pre-registration period for the student's last semester in the CCT Program. In order to get formal approval use the Thesis Proposal Form (due November 1 for spring thesis writers or April 1 for fall semester thesis writers)
Students can take core method and theory courses in any order, and students are highly encouraged to take both in the first year of studies. There is no guarantee that students will be able to do a thesis if they wait until the third semester to take the last core method or theory course.
Degree Sequence 2 - Coursework (39 credits)
Coursework Option 1 Requirements:
• CCTP-505 Introduction to CCT (3 credits)
• Either a Core Method or a Core Theory Course (3 credits)
• 11 Elective Courses (3 credits each)
Coursework Option 2 Requirements:
• CCTP-505 Introduction to CCT (3 credits)
• Core Method or Core Theory Course (3 credits)
• 10 Elective Courses (3 credits each)
• Capstone Internship Course (3 credits) ***
***Effective Spring 2006, the Capstone Internship Course, offered as part of Option 2, will only be available on a case-by-case basis. The internship must be approved by the student's CCT faculty advisor. Students are responsible for finding an appropriate internship before they can register for this course. Internship course must be taken in the last semester of a student's studies.
