CCT Master of Arts Degree Requirements

Message to current students / students who enrolled prior to Summer 2010:
The following curriculum is not for you.  Refer to the curriculum in place when you started CCT for planning your studies.
**

This curriculum is effective for students matriculating as CCT degree students Summer 2010 and afterwards.

CCT students must successfully complete core courses and one of two degree sequences, thesis or coursework, totalling 39 credits, with a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0 to be eligible for the Master of Arts degree in Communication, Culture & Technology.

Students may enroll on a full-time or part-time basis, but full-time enrollment is strongly encouraged. Full-time students graduate in two years. Part-time students typically graduate in two and a half years.

Degree Sequence 1 - Thesis (39 credits)

  • CCTP 505 Introduction to CCT (three credits-taken in the first fall semester of the program)
  • CCTP 506 Fundamentals of Technology course (three credits-taken in the first spring semester of the program)
  • Core Method Course (three credits - choose from one of multiple offered)
  • Eight elective credits (usually three credits each)
  • CCTP-996 Thesis Colloquium (six credits - which can be split into two consecutive semesters) and a thesis project

Students must meet the following qualifications to pursue the thesis option. If they do not, they must pursue the coursework option:

  • Earn an A- or better in a core method course
  • Receive the thesis committee's approval via the Thesis Proposal Form by October 25 for spring semester thesis writers or by March 25 for fall semester thsesis writers.

Students are highly encouraged to take a core method course in the first year of studies. There is no guarantee that students will be able to do a thesis if they wait until the third semester to take the core method course.

Degree Sequence 2 - Coursework (39 credits)

  • CCTP 505 Introduction to CCT (three credits-taught in the fall semester)
  • CCTP 506 Fundamentals of Technology course (three credits-taught in the spring)
  • Core Method Course (three credits - choose from one of multiple offered)
  • Ten Elective Courses (usually three credits each)
