CCT’s New Media in Asia Group Hosts First Meeting
CCT’s New Media in Asia Group had a great turnout for their first meeting of the semester. Over 20 students attended, with a blend of first year, second year, and even prospective CCT students. Co-Directors Will Vogt, Dani Phelps, and Susan Noh introduced future events planned for this semester, and encouraged students to discuss their interests with the group and initiate potential events for the Spring semester.
Mutual topics among the students in attendance included:
- Technology platforms for viewing/sharing/discussing media,
- Korean music, film, and culture
- Cross-cultural comparisons between Chinese, Korean, and Western film/reality TV
- Social media for marketing, political engagement, building Chinese national identity
The next New Media in Asia event will take place September 24th at 8pm in the CCT Studio. It will be focusing on Copyright and Fanculture, with brief explanation of various types of Fanculture (subtitling, scanlations, fanfiction, fanart, cosplay), followed by discussion of the information provided.
We look forward to incoming members organizing events based on their shared interests in all things related to Asian Media. If you were unable to attend the first meeting, but would like further information or wish to join a mailing list, please contact:
