Chelsey Li, CCT ’25

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION AND WHAT YOUR ROLE WAS.

Chelsey participated the Fall 2023 Georgetown Technology Commercialization Internship Program, a program that engages participants of various academic trajectories in all aspects of Intellectual Property management, technology commercialization, and entrepreneurship. Interns have the chance to work hands-on in the areas of patenting, prior art searching, technology evaluations, market analysis, competitive landscape research and marketing. Participants have the opportunity to work directly with start-up creation and venture creation ecosystems.

WHAT WAS YOUR ROLE WITHIN THE PROGRAM?

Chelsey worked on various projects during her time in the program under the Mentorship of Monita Tarazi, a Marketing Manager in the tech commercialization program who Chelsey says gave her invaluable advice about the marketing industry and practical knowledge about working in the field.  She also spent a significant portion of time learning about the life-cycle of the technology commercialization process including market research and patent registration. She was also intent on highlighting the support she received from the Office of Technology Commercialization during her time in the program and was really appreciative of the thoughtfulness that went into planning the internship experience.

Within the program, interns jobs consist of evaluating student projects to see if they are applicable for a patent, and then analyzing the cost benefits of market production and whether companies or independent investors would be interested in mass production– benefitting both the student and the Georgetown University Office of Technology Commercialization.
