CCT’s New Media in Asia Group hosts first meeting

CCT’s New Media in Asia Group had a great turnout for their first meeting of the semester. Over 20 students attended, with a blend of first-year, second-year, and even prospective CCT students. Co-Directors Will Vogt, Dani Phelps, and Susan Noh introduced future events planned for this semester and encouraged students to discuss their interests with the group and initiate potential events for the Spring semester.

Mutual topics among the students in attendance included the following:

• Technology platforms for viewing/sharing/discussing media, 
• Korean music, film, and culture 
• Cross-cultural comparisons between Chinese, Korean, and Western film/reality TV
• Social media for marketing, political engagement, and building Chinese national identity

The next New Media in Asia event will take place on September 24th at 8 pm in the CCT Studio. It will focus on Copyright and Fan Culture, with a brief explanation of various types of Fan Culture (subtitling, scanlations, fan fiction, fan art, and cosplay), followed by a discussion of the information provided.
