Mark MacCarthy testifies before Congress on Student Privacy

CCT Adjunct Faculty member Mark MacCarthy is Vice President for Public Policy at the Software & Information Industry Association, a DC-based trade association representing data and data analytics companies.  In that capacity, his recent work has focused on how to assess and address growing problems of student privacy and data security. Recently he testified in front of a joint hearing of the House Committees on Education and Cybersecurity on student privacy.  Read his written testimony, “How Data Mining Threatens Student Privacy (new window)”, and watch video from the hearing (new window). His article, entitled, “Student Privacy: Harm and Context (new window),” appeared in the International Review of Information Ethics over the summer. This article combines two privacy approaches into an assessment framework that can be used to address student privacy issues.

Mark MacCarthy (new window) has been an adjunct faculty member of the CCT program for over a decade and teaches a variety of courses including the development of electronic media, global Internet freedom and a summer program in Geneva on trade and the global information economy.
