Academic Background: BA Dual Degree in Legal Studies and Politics

Area of focus in CCT: Surveillance Studies, Digital Politics, and Data Justice

What did you do before CCT? I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in Legal Studies and Politics. I also gained experience working as an Intersectional Leadership Consultant for higher education institutions in California. My work focused on equity and accessibility advocacy in curriculum development. I continued this work throughout my first year at CCT and virtually co-facilitated a course at Harvey Mudd College.

What activities do you participate in at CCT? I am a Graduate Fritz Fellow housed under the Ethics Lab and CCT. I conduct research with two Undergraduate Fritz Fellows on Biometric Surveillance Technology. I lead our team in answering the following question: How can systems of biometric surveillance in the labor, policing, and education sectors be reoriented from models of control to models of care?

Why did you choose CCT? CCT presented opportunities to develop my interests in both theory and application. The Georgetown community allows me to further my education with close feedback from peers and mentors across sectors. CCT’s interdisciplinary framework especially understands the necessity for collaboration in both academic and professional environments.

What surprised you about CCT? I found the ease to move across sectors in classroom, club, and professional interests was helpful to better develop my graduate school experience. Faculty members are incredibly encouraging and excited to tailor your education to your evolving interests. The Georgetown community supports self-driven initiative and is eager to provide a helping hand through all available networks.
